Led by guitarist Brian Dixon and frontman Jesse Wagner, the band effortlessly blends the most authentic 60’s Jamaican sound with their own brand of raw intensity and grit. The recipe calls for a heap of Lee Perry and WAR and Toots for good measure. It’s a viscous stew called Dirty Reggae...
I'm going to start a little list for Santa. I know that Thanksgiving hasn't even happened yet and I don't care. I found this item to start my list for ska xmas shopping:

This site is a riot! They have redefined ska like nobody ever has. Their list of ska bands has information that every ska band should add to their bio! I'm missing upbeats because I'm laughing so hard. Except for the Origin part...not too sure about that section still...but the rest is pretty funny!
In the early 1980s, bands influenced by the 2 Tone ska revival started forming in the United States and other countries. This revival included post-punk ska bands such as The Uptones in Berkeley, California and The Toasters and Mighty Mighty Bosstones on the East Coast. Many third wave ska bands played ska punk, which is characterized by brass instruments, a heavily-accented offbeat, and usually a much faster, punk rock-inspired tempo (though the R&B influences are played down). Some third wave bands played ska-core, which blends ska with hardcore punk. However, several third wave ska bands played in a more traditional 1960s-influenced style.
On the East Coast, the first well-known ska revival band was The Toasters, who played in a 2 Tone-influenced style and helped pave the way for the third wave ska movement. In 1981, The Toasters' frontman Robert "Bucket" Hingley created Moon Ska Records, which became the biggest American ska record label.
The Uptonesjump-started the Bay Area California ska scene in 1981 when the band, consisting of Berkeley High School students, went on to play sold-out shows throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for seven years. Their 1984 self-titled record was released on Howie Klein's 415 label. The Uptones' punk-influenced ska has been cited as inspiration by California bands, Operation Ivy,Rancid, and Sublime. In 2002 The Uptones reformed and continue to record and play live shows on the west coast.
Two Tone Ska has it's own sound, style and history. Instead of being biased with my own definition, I'd rather point you to a category that lists a collection of opinions and articles.
Ska is unity from a combined effort of many many people who love ska.
What is Ska music? Sometimes, that’s a good question.
And sometimes…you should know these things. But if you don’t…
Well, I had some time on my hands to collect some data from the google. So that next time somebody asks you, you’ll have something to say about it. This is what I found on line…
In any history report you will find that most stories were told orally before they were written down and published. Recently the history of Ska music reached the tender age of 30 years. Spin Magazine caught up with Jerry Dammers from The Specials and Dave Wakeling from The English Beat.
Here is what Dave Wakeling said about the history of two tone Ska.
DAVE WAKELING (singer-guitarist, the Beat): There'd been a West Indian community in Birmingham, where we were from, since the '50s. In postwar Britain, they sent out invitations to people living in other parts of the empire, saying, "Help rebuild England from the bombings and you can make loads of money and then go back home and build yourself a huge house." So a lot of people came over with that notion, but of course, there was never quite enough money for the boat trip home, and then people started having kids. So we grew up with the first set of those kids born in England. The first Jamenglish set, I suppose. So the early mods and the rude boys had been quite friendly [toward one another]. Both were dapper dressers. (entire article)

Ska fans all over the world get to que up for an autograph that is rankin' higher than Roger. If you are a true Ska fan then you know who Neville Staple is. If you don't...Neville Staple from The Specials has his book out and you can find out for yourself by getting a copy.
It's probably like no other story you've heard or read about. For one, when you see the 2 tone checker symbol, what do you really think of? Do you think about chess? Nascar? Or do you think about heavy racial tension in the streets of English towns like Coventry, Birmingham and London? Where Rude boys clashed with skinheads over the right to simply exist in peace. Forming the Specials was a statement that a lot of people tend to over look. It was saying that " WE WILL NOT BE ANYTHING BUT UNITED, PROUD PEOPLE REGARDLESS OF RACE RELIGION OR COLOR " Along with the music, that is the foundation under the mighty history of the Specials. Now take a look at that checkerboard symbol... It's all in his book, I'm sure. As well as other interesting tid bits of information. Hats off to Neville Staple of the Specials! Original Rude Boy! Respect!
This past Friday night saw the closing of yet another venerable club here in New York City. The Knitting Factory joined CBGB's, The Continental and many others that helped to grow, nurture and support the NYC ska scene over the last 25 years. The Knit (as it was affectionately known) regularly booked ska bands and (read whole article)

Dancing Mood? Me? Usually. That's what Ska is. It's a dancing mood that you experience with your whole body. It's what the ska music does to people. Whether you're shaking your hips, your legs, feet, booty, head, whatever....if it's Ska...it's like involuntary muscle reflex with a smile. I found a blog that must agree. Check out Dancing Mood's blog and start with this article about Go Jimmy Go!
Musashi “Moose” Lethridge, Uptones guitarist and builder of the world’s first Ska Shrine, recently demonstrated Proper Shrine Use and Etiquette, to help publicize the Ska Shrine Ska4Ever Postage Stamp. On hand to witness the first Solo Ska Shrine Skankfest, were Official Ska Shrine Videographer Jake Small, and assistant Shrine builder and Ska Music DJ Eric Din.
After a solemn entrance, Moose called out tracks from the Uptones’ Skankin’ Foolz Unite CD and suddenly went into an all out skanking frenzy. His gravity-defying moves tested the physical limits of the Shrine, but it held together in all its two-tone glory even at skanking speeds of Mach 2 and beyond. Several spectators who got too close had to be carried out on stretchers, giggling uncontrollably.
Proud Ska Shrine architect Matthew King Kaufman also witnessed the events, describing them as “uncanny” and “paranormal.”
Afterward, we all sat cross-legged around the shrine, wrote letters to friends around the globe, and proudly sent them off using Official Ska Shrine Ska4Ever Postage Stamps. We encourage you to purchase a sheet of these beautiful, self-adhesive stamps, to help spread the word about Ska Music and the Ska Shrine, far and wide.
The Uptones are all very grateful to Moose, for his exskaordinary and inspiring efforts to spread Ska Music and make the world a better place.

Since Bernard Madoff was arrested in December and confessed to masterminding a multi-billion Ponzi scheme, countless people have wondered: Who else was involved? Who knew about the fraud? After all, Madoff not only engineered an epic swindle, he insisted to the FBI that he did it all by himself. To date, Madoff has not implicated anybody but himself.
I have been excited about Ska music for quite some time now.
The equation of Ska music+crowd=dancing is so very pleasing to me. So my experience is motivated by the joy of this. And it is a privilege to feel like I'm a part of this on going movement of the Ska masses. How many waves have there been so far? I'm too committed to the music to keep track, actually. If you want to tell me, I' m sure I will agree. Either way, as a member of the Uptones, you can bet that a couple of us are jumping out of our socks to this:
